Surprise Engagement at La Jolla Cove, CA + Proposal Advice if Traveling Across the Country
MOST OF THE TIME
I am a wedding photographer that stays locally within the Twin Cities
Some of the time
I get to travel across the country to take photos of those I love
My brother-in-law Noah proposed to his girlfriend Sheridon along the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, California this past December. She may or may not have known it was coming. If you haven’t been to La Jolla, it’s a cute area with shops, art galleries, and restaurants overlooking the Pacific Coast. Note: it is not pronounced La Jawl-la; like my upper midwest accent led me to believe. It was my first time to this part of California, and honestly any trip to California, even in December is worth it.
Throughout the day, I was checking in with Noah to see where they were located and at what time they thought they would be to this part of the city. As they got closer to the location, I went to my hiding spot. Once Noah and Sheridon parked, Sheridon wanted to take a leisurely stroll through the town, while Noah had very specific instructions to get to a certain overlook at a certain time. When Sheridon asked to stop in a shop, Noah said “No,” and continued walking without saying anything more. Apparently his palm was also very sweaty…
I was waiting at La Jolla Cove, which has a cliff that overlooks the ocean. Sheridon is a San Diego native, so doing the proposal here was meaningful for her being that they were back on her turf and her parents were able to come. The ocean makes a great backdrop and the emotions are very clear on their faces. I loved being apart of this day!!! Welcome to the family, Sheridon!
BRIDGET’S TOP 5 TIPS IF YOU ARE PROPOSING ACROSS THE COUNTRY:
Go to a location that is meaningful and somewhat secluded (unless you like a lot of attention and want to flash that bling around; get it girl!)
If said secluded location perhaps has a “No Trespassing because of unstable cliff” sign, (purely an example…) I mean just take your chances this is a once in a lifetime thing, really no one will yell at you and you can just claim you’re a tourist, which you are! Probably!
If you are meeting a photographer at said location, make sure they get there early to find a spot to hide! Stay in contact with them, but don’t text so much that your palms are sweaty or you’re not paying attention to your sweetie.
If it’s a place you haven’t been at together for awhile, budget in time to slowly walk around and reminisce, as to not be on such a mission.
