Nigerian-American Woods Chapel + Lafayette Club Wedding in the Early Spring

There's something really beautiful that happens when you allow your personality and culture to to shine through on your wedding day.  It opens the door to let people in to see who you are individually, as a couple, and how that blends together to promote each others strengths. I photographed this wedding of Hannah and Bishop this past spring where we were able to see just how they did that. Hannah is Eastern European and Bishop is Nigerian. It was a beautiful interracial wedding with two families who love each other and embracing the other’s culture.

The wedding was held at The Woods Chapel in Orono, MN, and the reception was at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka. They had a Christian ceremony and an American/Nigerian wedding reception, complete with a different version of “The Dollar Dance” that I was used to. A money dance tradition originating in Nigeria, the bride and groom dance while the guests literally throw piles of money at them. It rocked and I felt like I was in one of my best dreams where I win the lottery. I can see why this is a tradition…

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Anyiwe; thanks for letting me tell your story.

Shall I write it in a letter? Shall I try to get it down? Oh, you feel my head with pieces of a song I can’t get out.
